Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Blinds & Shades
Choosing & Planning
Many homeowners reach out before closing on a new home, during a remodel, or right after moving in. If the drywall is still open, wiring can be planned for motorized shades. Whether covering one room or an entire home, we help prioritize needs and create a cohesive design throughout the home.
Choosing window coverings involves more than selecting a product. A design consultant evaluates the options based on the home's architecture, natural light, privacy needs, functionality, and lifestyle, while explaining the details that are often overlooked. Our role is to simplify the decision-making process and help avoid costly mistakes.
We consider your windows, home, style, and how each room is used to narrow the options to those that best fit your needs. This gives you a focused selection and helps you make an informed decision without feeling overwhelmed.
We bring samples into your home so you can see how colors, textures, and materials actually look with your lighting, furnishings, and finishes. This helps ensure the final selection complements your home and reflects your style.
Custom window coverings cost more upfront, and premium lines like Hunter Douglas are a real investment. They include professional design guidance, precise measurements, custom sizing, expert installation, and products backed by manufacturer warranties. The result is a better fit and longer-lasting value than ready-made options.
Features & Benefits
Yes. Depending on the room and your goals, options like top-down/bottom-up shades, sheer shades, solar shades, and light-filtering fabrics let you control privacy while still letting light in. We help balance privacy, natural light, and views based on how the room is actually used.
Solar shades reduce glare while preserving your view. Room-darkening and blackout shades provide greater light control and are popular for bedrooms, media rooms, and nurseries.
Yes. Energy-efficient window coverings can reduce summer heat gain and slow winter heat loss. Honeycomb shades provide excellent insulation, while shutters, Roman shades, and layered treatments can also improve comfort.
For large and hard-to-reach windows, motorized shades provide convenient operation. Vertical window coverings work well for sliding glass doors. Honeycomb shades offer flexibility for specialty or odd-shaped windows such as angled, arched, corner, and bay windows. We design a solution based on the window's shape, function, and how it operates.
Yes. Cordless and motorized options eliminate hanging cords, which is a common priority for nurseries, kids’ rooms, and homes with young children or pets.
Consultation & Installation
An in-home consultation allows us to evaluate your windows, lighting, furnishings, and architectural details, review samples in your home, and take precise measurements that online estimates can't reliably provide.
No. Our consultations are built to educate and guide you through the available options, answer your questions, and provide recommendations based on your needs. Our goal is to help you make an informed decision, not pressure you into one.
Yes. For larger homes or new construction with many windows, we can prioritize the rooms that matter most first and complete the rest in phases as your timeline allows.
Lead times vary by product and manufacturer. During your consultation, we provide an estimated timeline based on your selections, then contact you to schedule installation once your order is ready.
Professional installation is typically fast, efficient and minimally disruptive. Our installers test, adjust each window covering, confirm everything operates correctly, and walk you through proper use before leaving.
Service & Support
We continue to support window coverings purchased through Amazing Blinds by Armi. When applicable, we can also assist longtime clients from Armi’s previous window covering business. If a manufacturer issue arises, we coordinate with the manufacturer to help resolve it. We’re also available to help with new window coverings as needs change.
We generally do not provide installation or repair services, or sell replacement parts, for window coverings purchased elsewhere. For products purchased through another retailer, we recommend contacting the original retailer first.
With proper installation and care, custom window coverings commonly last well over a decade. We've supported clients with the same window treatments for 13 to 15+ years.
